Boulder police are investigating the death of an elderly cyclist whose body was discovered Friday night in front of the Diagonal Plaza.

Police were notified about 10 p.m. Friday that an unresponsive man with a bicycle was found on the roadway in front of the Diagonal Plaza, 2972 Iris Ave. A witness told police they had not seen the crash but discovered the victim in the roadway, unconscious. When police arrived, the man was not breathing. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The cyclist was described as an 80-year-old white man, wearing a bicycle helmet, long-sleeve white shirt and dark pants. The bicycle was red.

Police believe the man was riding his bicycle eastbound, rode over a speed hump, lost control and crashed. Investigators have found indication, at this time, that any other vehicle was involved in the crash, but the incident remains under investigation by the Boulder Police Department Traffic Unit.  Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Richard Smith at 720-438-5408.
