For many years now, Facebook is often seen as a controversial company. It is a company that is typically seen to invade its user’s privacy with its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg attending government hearings over the past year for that very reason. The upcoming stablecoin from the social network, Libra is controversial in itself but now it seems Facebook is wanting to get involved with the mind of their users…

This is an interesting topic brought up by CCN this week but the gist of it is that Facebook are acquiring a startup based in New York called CTRL-labs. This is a deal worth $1 billion but what’s really interesting about this buyout is the CTRL-labs. For those that don’t know, CTRL-labs is a firm that specialises in brain-to-computer interfaces. Their vision is to create a wristband that allows people to take control of their devices.

According to Facebook Vice President of AR/VR Andrew Bosworth, the wristband will decode the electrical signals sent via your spinal cord. From here, it will then translate them digitally so your device will understand, and so “empowering you with control over your digital life.”

In essence, this wristband will take your thoughts and put them in a digital form on a screen only you can see.

Personally, it sounds like we’re going into a world of simulation however, it’s said that facebook will understand how we think thanks to this device.

Maybe it’s an exaggeration though and that it is a convenient way of stepping forward with technology. Considering the firm is under an antitrust investigation by the FTC, the public’s best interest must be in mind.

It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. For more news on this and other crypto updates, keep it with CryptoDaily!
