Hi all,

After a few projects finished by hand by wiping on stain and 50/50 thinned poly, I’m thinking I could get better results / less lint nibs in my finish if I sprayed. I bought a box of T shirt rags from u line and even ran the whole box through my washer and dryer prior to using them but I am still not very satisfied with the results.

[I have a 30 gallon 5.7 CFM @90 psi compressor](https://www.homedepot.ca/product/dewalt-30-gal-portable-vertical-electric-air-compressor/1000747907) permanently plumbed through ~50 feet of a copper piping cooling radiator and then through one of [these](https://cdn1.bigcommerce.com/server1200/8f3af/products/1697/images/4044/IMG_0201__82711.1515553303.1280.1280.jpg?c=2)

Will that setup meet the needs of a HVLP spray gun?

I do all of my work in my garage which is about 19’x19′ and I would have about half of that to set up an area to spray. I would drop sheet the back wall and floor but having never sprayed any finishes before, I am wondering how much of the other half of the shop (and all the machines in that other half) are going to be covered in over spray?

Is this doable without making a giant mess? I watched some wood whisperer videos of him spraying finishes and it doesn’t seem that there is a lot of blow back, if any at all but during my research in this sub I watched a gif of a reddit woodworker spraying and you could clearly see the overspray was covering anything and everything in the entire room.

Thanks for your time.
