Man dies, 3 hurt in head-on taxi crash – Delaware Free News

GEORGETOWN, DELAWARE (6/14/2019) A 73-year-old man died Thursday when the minivan taxi he was driving collided head-on with a FedEx box truck west of Georgetown, the Delaware State Police said this morning. Three other people were injured.

The crash was reported at 3:49 p.m. on Old Furnace Road east of Rementer Road.

Police said the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan was eastbound on a slight curve when it crossed into the oncoming lane and struck the westbound truck for unknown reasons.

The driver of the minivan, from Rehoboth Beach, was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where he was pronounced dead. Police are withholding his name pending notification of next of kin.

The taxi was carrying two passengers, police said. A 21-year-old man from Georgetown was taken by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland, and admitted for observation. A 20-year-old man from Georgetown was taken to Nanticoke Memorial, treated for injuries and released.

The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old man from Bridgeville, was taken to Nanticoke and later transferred to Christiana Hospital in Stanton with serious injuries, police said.

Old Furnace Road in the area of Rementer Road was closed about 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage cleared.
