Newton Named to AP, FWAA All-America First Teams

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton was named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and Associated Press (AP) All-America first teams, the organizations announced Monday. It is the sixth and seventh first-team honors for Newton, who was also named a First Team All-American by The Athletic, CBS, PFF, Sports Illustrated, and USA TODAY. 

Both the FWAA and AP are part of the official NCAA All-America lists, which count towards Consensus All-America status. Newton has now made two of three official All-America first teams with two more lists…
